Birth Month Flower For August

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Saturday August 11th is my sister’s birthday and I always send her a bouquet of mixed flowers. This year, I wanted to do something different. Last month, I received a flower arrangement containing my birth month flower which gave me an idea. I had my florist design this arrangementGaldiolus Birthday Bouquet. The gladiolus in the arrangement are the birth month flower for August. Poppies are also considered the August birth month flower.
Hopefully, when she receives it tomorrow she’ll love it as much I do.

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

It has been another wonderful summer for the FlowerShopNetwork staff. In the past few weeks our staff has been to the Texas State Florist Convention (July 14-15) and the Oklahoma State Florists Association Conference (August 3-5). Our staff enjoyed the fellowship of many enthusiastic florists. It was great to meet up with long time friends as well as develop new friendships with many of the florists attending the show. The FlowerShopNetwork booth at both shows was a constant parade of interesting visitors. In (more…)

Eco Friendly Foliage For A Green World

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Everywhere I look the term eco friendly is associated with some product. Food, clothing and skin care products have all been linked to the eco friendly trend. So it didn’t surprise me when reading the August issue of Floral Management that greenery (foliage) was considered a good fit for the eco friendly lifestyle.

What Causes Impatiens To Die

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Ask the Expert: I cannot figure out why my Impatiens are dying?

Lately the Impatiens are dying literally before my eyes. One day they are fine, the next day it looks like they are being stripped overnight of all their leaves. I have used Bayer flower dust on them, I use Miracle plant food, I have them hanging out of direct sunlight. I cannot see any bugs on them but it is s frustrating to be losing these flowers and so fast. What can I use to keep the ones I do have. Funny thing no other plant is being affected.

Ask the Expert: Luck of the Bamboo Plant

My bamboo plant was given to me in a pot with an elephant head on the side. I was told that the elephant trunk had to face northwest for the plant to be lucky????

Thank you.

Sympathy Flowers: How Funeral Directors & Florists Work Together

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

I read an interesting article the other day. The article was based on suggestions from a member of the Texas State Florists’ Association after attending the Texas Funeral Directors Association convention.

When it comes to sympathy flowers, florists and funeral directors have the same goal, to help families through the bereavement process. It is well established that flowers are a comfort and joy to those during times of grief. Flowers can help both entities achieve their goal. But to achieve this goal effectively it requires a working rapport between the florist and the funeral director.
