Flowers Add Pep To Life

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Flowers empower according to recent studies published by Prevention magazine and Redbook magazine. While an old adage has long suggested that stopping to smell the roses will brighten one’s day, new evidence concludes that even casually glancing at flowers has the same uplifting affect.

According to Prevention magazine’s April 2008 publication, a study at Texas A&M University compared the productivity of two women in a room decorated with abstract sculptures versus the productivity of two women in a room embellished with two potted plants and a floral bouquet. The women in the room with flowers produced 13% more Read the rest of Flowers Add Pep To Life »

Ask the Expert: Difference between Floral and Commercial fridge
I’m in the process of starting a floral business and was wondering if you can tell me if there is a difference between a floral refrigerator and a commercial refrigerator made for food/beverage. Does the floral fridge come with something that the commercial fridge doesn’t have? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

All Zodiac Signs Point To Birthday Flowers

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

April is the month of many birthdays in my family. I knew that I wanted to send my elderly grandmother a colorful spring bouquet but was unsure of which unique gift to give my sister. Shannon shares a birthday with my best friend, which is difficult enough, but her birthday is also one of five family birthdays in the month.

I went in search of a unique idea for expressing just how meaningful Shannon is to me and how special she is apart from anyone else. I began shopping through the horde of treasures on her wish list but nothing particularly grabbed my fancy. I dislike shopping Read the rest of All Zodiac Signs Point To Birthday Flowers »

Bromeliad With Brown Leaves Help?

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Ask the Expert: Brown Leaves
I got a Bromeliad ~ 1 month ago for my birthday. It is blooming beautifully. I re-potted it about a week after I got it. Now, the leaves are turning brown / yellow starting with the bottom leaves & working its way up. I am only watering once a week & just keeping the cup full. It is in indirect sunlight. What is the most likely culprit & what can I do to save the plant? It is so pretty, I don’t want to lose it.
Thank you in advance for your time!!! Below are the picture of my bromeliad.

Ask the Expert: keeping cut flowers fresh for a rehearsal dinner
We are planning a rehearsal dinner. I will use a candle-holding lantern on each table with a small grouping of maybe 2 roses, baby’s breath and something blue tied with wired ribbon lying on two sides of the lantern. How might I prepare the little grouping of flowers early in the day and keep them fresh while on the tables?

Thank you so much for your help and advice. Jane Scobey

Maryland Wedding Flowers In May

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Ask the Expert: May seasonal flowers in Maryland
What are some seasonal flowers for a May wedding in Maryland? I don’t want to pay extra to have flowers flown in, as it’s much more affordable. The wedding is May 9th. I really like color and the wedding will be held in a garden.
Any ideas or suggestions? Jessica

Jessica,

In today’s global world, most flowers aren’t truly “seasonal” any more. With the exception of really rare flowers like lilacs, most florists can get any flower any time with very little Read the rest of Maryland Wedding Flowers In May »
