Send A Smile On National Nurses Day

National Nurses Day is May 6th

Send A SmileThere are over 2.7 million registered nurses in America in 2013.  From assisting doctors during major surgeries to long sessions of physical therapy and caring for the elderly, we all owe a great deal of thanks to these patient men and women who care for the ill. National Nurses Day on May 6th celebrates these hard-working individuals.

From time to time, we all have reasons to visit a hospital. It is a nurse who carefully holds a baby to the nursery window for a new dad to see. Nurses are the first to come running to a patient’s bedside when needed most. Frequently working long hours, it is often the nurses who distribute all the get well gifts and flowers sent by loved ones. Take the time to include a nurse in those deliveries and brighten her whole week!

It’s so easy to send a smile. Show a bit of appreciation to someone who has made a difference in you and your family’s well-being.
Contact your local florist and send some love to a nurse in your life!

Social Management Tools

In our growing, high-tech world, companies using social media are seeing big benefits. However, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Businesses are told they need to be on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Instagram and many others, with more popping up every day. By using social management tools, you can streamline your social efforts into a routine that works for you.

Built-in Social Management

Facebook allows you to schedule posts, pictures, and more right from your Business Page. The next time you are posting a status or photo to your Page’s wall, click the little clock icon to schedule it to post at a later time. By scheduling a weeks worth of posts, you can take a lot of time out of your social media routine.

Scheduling Facebook Posts

Unfortunately Twitter does not have a way to schedule posts from the website, but there are many social media management tools that will let you do this. (Keep reading for more.)

Email Notifications

Another great way to cut down your time on social media sites is by having all important notifications sent to your email. Instead of needing to check each day for notifications, you can simply check your email and determine if anything requires your attention without having to login to the social networking site.

Celebrate New Moms on Mother’s Day

Flowers for First Moms on their First Mother's Day

All of the joys of motherhood start with that first baby bundled in your arms. New mothers will find they are the focus of an entire day of celebration on May 12th, 2013. On Mother’s Day, we honor our mothers because they are the most important people in our lives. For all the love & support they give, special thanks are definitely in order. For new moms, those traditions are just starting.

If someone in your life recently had a baby, or is expecting, take advantage of this unique opportunity to wish them Happy 1st Mother’s Day!

Gift Ideas For First-Time Moms

  • A beautiful flower arrangement on her first Mother’s Day is sure to be remembered.  Check out this fun FSN Style Guide to help select flowers that are a prefect compliment to her indiviual style. Contact a nearby flower shop to place your order early.
  • Few things are appreciated more than a meal you didn’t have to cook yourself. Surprise a busy mom by jumping in the kitchen to whip up something tasty. Cooking not your thing? Order from her favorite restaurant. She will love having the night off and probably swoon if she doesn’t have to do the dishes either!
  • A sweet surprise for expecting moms – send fresh flowers from your local florist and have them sign the card from the new baby. You’ll be jump-starting a long tradition of love and celebration. Cards that read “I Love You Already” or “My Heartbeat Will Always Be With You” signed with the new baby’s name will be sure to melt her heart.
  • What sleep deprived mom wouldn’t love a break? Offer to help around the house with laundry and picking up toys. For an understated gesture, casually leave a card with her favorite candy in a place she’ll find it later, maybe when the house is quiet.

All mothers deserve warm Mother’s Day wishes.
This year, don’t forgot how extra special it is to be a first-time mom!

Orchids and Allergy Sufferers – The Perfect Arrangement

Everyone adores a fresh cut bouquet in their home or office but the sight of big blooming flowers can cause a few to be apprehensive. Seasonal allergies are to blame. The body’s immune system overreacts to airborne particles that generally fail to bother others. But with a little help from a thoughtful and skilled florist, everyone can enjoy the beauty of a fresh arrangement.

Pollen Forecast

Flowers that produce airborne pollen are the main culprits for allergies suffers, but not all flowers pollinate this way. Many, like orchids roses and tulips, rely on insects to carry pollen from bloom to bloom. In these varieties, the pollen is too heavy and large to be carried by the wind. Creating stunning arrangements with these flowers are not likely to trigger any sneezing fits.

Orchids – No Sniffles Here

Orchids produce very little pollen, come in many different vibrant colors and are the safest flower for sensitive individuals. Not sure about a particular flower? Keep in mind that the more scent present in a flower, the more pollen it contains. Think those gorgeous lilies are going to make your eyes water? Not if the pollen-covered stamen in the center of the flower is removed.

25 Ways Flower Shops Can Recycle For Earth Day

Earth Day is a unique holiday where we take the time to celebrate the earth and it’s resources that we tend to look over in our busy lives. Everything we have has come from the earth: the wood in our houses, the water in our coffee, the food we’re eating for lunch, and so much more. Isn’t it our time to give back?

This Earth Day, find a new way to use the 3 R’s in your daily life: Reduce Reuse Recycle!

Recycle for Earth DayHere are some great methods florists already use in their flower shops. (If you’re a florist, perhaps you can find a way to start using some of these great, earth-friendly actions.)

  • 1. Recycle and reuse cardboard.
  • 2. Encourage customers to bring in glass vases for reuse or recycling.
  • 3. Give bubblewrap to the local packaging store (UPS).
  • 4. Use terry towels instead of paper towels at your design table.
  • 5. Reuse packing material whenever possible.
  • 6. Use recycled office paper to make notepads for shop use.
  • 7. Use a hybrid or other earth-friendly vehicle to do deliveries.
  • 8. Empty cooler bucket water onto outdoor plants.
  • 9. Recycle stems and other organic waste in a compost, or find a local composter to give it to.
  • 10. Give flower boxes back to wholesalers.
  • 11. Keep mug boxes and other pretty containers to use as ‘economy’ containers by using a plastic liner for small arrangements.
  • 12. Save extra pieces of ribbon, fabric, cardboard tubes and foil to give to local pre-schools for art projects. [Read more…]
