When to Send A Woman Flowers

Flowers have magical powers that can turn a woman’s day around in an instant. Many women though only receive this special, beautiful gift once a year, maybe twice if they are lucky!

Don’t worry men! We know that sending flowers can seem like an overwhelming task, but we are here to help you out. Sending flowers to your significant other on a day other than your anniversary or Valentine’s Day can really help strengthen a relationship. Take a look at the list below. It shows five times throughout the year you can send a woman flowers without a special occasion. She will be blown away by your thoughtfulness!

1) To Help Ask For Forgiveness
You have said you are sorry but she still seems to be upset. Most likely this is because she just needs time to get over it. A nice way to help her find forgiveness in her heart is through a thoughtful gift. When she sees a dozen beautiful roses waiting on her desk in the morning she will think fondly of you and have a smile on her face. Remember though that sending flowers will suffice if you have not apologized in person.

The True Meaning Behind Parents’ Day

Did you know that Parents’ Day promotes diversity and religious freedom? Keep reading to learn the true purpose of Parents’ Day and how you can celebrate!

Many Americans do not know the true history behind Parents’ Day and believe that it is just another holiday crafted to promote spending and gift-giving. The purpose of this national holiday is much deeper, aiming to strengthen our communities and country.

What is Parents’ Day?

In 1994 President Bill Clinton signed into law the resolution unanimously adopted by the U.S. Congress establishing the fourth Sunday of every July as Parents’ Day, a perennial day of commemoration similar to Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. According to the Congressional Resolution, Parents’ Day is established for, “recognizing, uplifting, and supporting the role of parents in the rearing of children.” The establishment of Parents’ Day was the result of a bipartisan, multiracial and interfaith coalition of religious, civic and elected leaders who recognized the need to promote responsible parenting in our society and to uplift ideal parental role models, especially for our nation’s children. Since the creation of this annual day of commemoration, local faith communities, elected officials and activists throughout the nation have creatively launched many activities around the theme of Parents’ day designed to celebrate and strengthen the traditional, two-parent family.

Parents’ Day is a time for every religion and race across the country to come together to support the family. Our culture emphasizes self-gratification, which is the opposite of parenthood. Parenthood requires selfless, unconditional love. Parents’ Day aims to promote the need for responsible parenting and a commitment to the family.

Flower Spotlight: Kangaroo Paw

The Kangaroo Paw may not be exactly what you’d expect to find in your flower arrangement, but this unique bloom can add a truly spectacular look to your bouquets.  Find out more about this unusual flower and where it gets its name.

Origin & Symbolism

As you can imagine with a name like Kangaroo Paw, this flower originates from western Australia.  Its genus name is Anigozanthos and is derived from the Greek words ‘anises’ meaning unequal, or oblique and ‘anthos’ meaning flower.  The symbolism behind its name literally means unequal, which is how this flower appears.  The flower is comprised of six uneven parts which gives it the characteristics of an outstretched Kangaroo paw.  This is how it received the nickname Kangaroo Paw, and is also sometimes called Catspaw or Money Paw, depending on the shape of the flower.

Pay it Forward with Flowers

daisy-heart-flowers-flower-heart

Almost everybody enjoys receiving gifts.  It’s a natural way to brighten someone’s day when they are feeling down.  What most people don’t realize, giving feels as good, if not better than, receiving.

The concept of paying it forward is nothing new.  Most of us have even participated.  That’s what National Give Something Away Day is all about.  Gather up those old clothes in your closet and take them to a charity.  Leave a little something in your mailbox for the mail carrier.  It doesn’t have to be anything too fancy.

Hello Sunshine Arrangement

Today is also a great reason to give flowers.  Stop by and see your local florist.  Buy a bouquet (or two) of daisies, roses, or whatever your florist has available.  Now you have everything you need to brighten multiple people’s day!  Walk down the street or visit local businesses, and give them away, one-by-one.  If you have a few left, stop in at a hospital or nursing home and leave them for the employees or residents.   A simple thank you and a pretty bloom can make a big difference.  It’s that easy!

Celebrate National Give Something Away Day by paying it forward with flowers!

3 Plants Likely to Survive the Office

3 Plants Likely to Survive the Office

I am now the proud owner of a Phalaenopsis Orchid.  My husband bought this gorgeous plant for my desk.  The first weekend I left it, I knew I was going to come back to a dead plant.  So far, it has survived.  I’ve decided to name it Ollie the Office Orchid, and it has inspired me to write about other plants to brighten your office space.

Heartleaf Philodendron

The Heartleaf Philodendron is easy to care for and is a classic houseplant.  The luscious leaves are heart shaped, and it can be grown in a pot or hanging basket.  It likes to climb, so it will need a stake or trellis if in a pot.  This is a low maintenance plant that can survive in low light with a moderate amount of water.

Giving Flowers a Second Life

Flowers are a wonderful thing.  They add beauty to any situation and are an integral part of weddings and many other occasions.  But what happens after the “I do’s” and events?

Flower donation is a growing phenomenon.  There are several organizations now who “recycle” gently used flowers from weddings and large events.  They use every part of the designs including the ribbons and vases.  New arrangements are crafted from deconstructing the bouquets and centerpieces. These new arrangements are then delivered to hospitals, assisted living facilities, hospice houses, and nursing homes.  Many times they are also tax deductible depending on what organization you work with.

Random Acts of Flowers is a privately-funded organization that has a vision to improve the emotional health of the community with flowers.

In July 2007, Random Acts of Flowers’ founder, Larsen Jay, was in a near-fatal accident. While confined to his hospital room, the outpouring of support that Larsen received in the form of daily visitors and dozens of floral arrangements immediately aided in his long recovery.

When Larsen was capable of leaving his room he noticed how many of his fellow patients did not have visitors or flowers – the very thing that helped him so much in those early and difficult days. Within moments the first “random act of flowers” delivery was made, repurposing his flowers and delivering them to patients in nearby hospital rooms. The memories of how a simple gesture touched his fellow patients compelled Larsen to form Random Acts of Flowers in 2008.

Random Acts of Flowers recycles and repurposes flowers by engaging dedicated volunteer teams to deliver beautiful bouquets and moments of kindness to individuals in healthcare facilities across the country.

As a recycling “green” nonprofit organization run almost entirely by volunteers, Random Acts of Flowers is committed to nourishing the health of the environment, individuals, and the community.

Are you interested in donating?  If there aren’t any organizations in your region, work with your florist or wedding planner to find a local facility in your area that would be interested in taking the flowers.  We all know flowers have a positive effect on mood, so why not share the joy? Visit your florist today to talk to them about flower donation!
