Can A Peace Lily Be Split?

By: Jamie Jamison Adams

I have a peace lily that needs transplanted. I would like to be able to split it in half and have 2 plants. Is that possible?

    Gail,

A peace lily can be split. However, the foliage on the newly divided plants will go into shock and make look bad for some time. To divide the peace lily take a serrated knife and cut from the bottom to the top — this will insure that the roots will support the foliage. Repot as you normally would. It is also a good idea to use a little vitamin b1 (this can be found at your local garden center or nursery). During this time of regrown keep the plant evenly moist — any additional stress to the plant will be detrimental.
