The genus Parkinsonia was named after the man who discovered the plant and the spieces aculeata means thorns. This plant is know for its delicate foliage, attractive flowers and thorns. A small ornamental tree that can be used in shrub borders, as a stand alone tree in the lawn or as a screening hedge. It needs full sun exposure and a soil that drains well. Although drought tolerant it needs moderate watering in the spring and summer as well as a monthly dose of a well-balanced fertilizer
