An easy way to take your Thanksgiving decor to the next level is by incorporating harvest-themed flowers. The colors, fragrances, and beauty of the flowers can make any buffet table look like it was composed by Ms. Martha Stewart herself. Let’s take a look at the different styles available; try to imagine each of these on your holiday table.

The Cornucopia – Holiday Decor
How gorgeous is this beautiful cornucopia design above? Wouldn’t you love it adorning your holiday buffet table, or even as a centerpiece? It’s rustic fall leaves mixed with deep red flowers and orange mums are enough to dazzle any Thanksgiving guest.
The cornucopia (or horn of plenty) has an incredibly interesting history itself, dating back long before our current Thanksgiving holiday. The word ‘cornucopia’ actually dates back to the 5th century BC. It derives from two Latin words: “cornu,” meaning horn (as in the name of that one-horned creature, the “unicorn”) and “copia,” meaning plenty (a relative of such words as “copious” and “copy”). Read all about the history of the cornucopia (horn of plenty).

When we think November, giving thanks usually comes to mind. Sure, there’s Thanksgiving… but there is a holiday before then that deserves more ‘thanks’ than we can ever give — Veterans Day. (November 11, 2011)
Veterans Day is the official day set aside to thank and remember all of our selfless, heroic veterans for the sacrifices they made in their lives to protect our freedom. Unlike Memorial Day, where we remember our lost heros, Veteran’s Day is for us to thank and celebrate ALL veterans, living or dead, wartime and peacetime.
How To Celebrate Veterans Day
- Attend a Veteran’s Day program, concert or parade.
- Wear a red, white and blue corsage or boutonniere.
- Take a moment of silence at noon, on November 11, to honorably remember those who served and died.
- Place red flowers, such as roses or carnations, or a red, white and blue bouquet at your local military memorials and monuments.
- Contribute to a Veteran’s Day ceremony in your community.
- Place a Veteran’s Day ‘thank you’ ad in your local newspapers, community newsletters or church flyers. Continue reading “Celebrating Veterans Day” »

During Halloween, jack-o-lanterns are on doorsteps everywhere! While pumpkins are typically used for Halloween, they are also great for fall and Thanksgiving decor! (Just without the faces.)
We spotted this adorable pumpkin decor idea and had to share: Mumkins! You know we love it because it mixes chrysanthemums with this iconic Halloween/Fall/Thanksgiving symbol.
Creating a mumkin is easy!
- Step 1: Use an awl or ice pick to poke holes, approximately 1/2″ apart, around the entire pumpkin.
- Step 2: Cut blooms with 2″ to 3″ stems off the plants. Strip leaves from the stems. (Larger pumpkins will need around 120 blooms to completely cover them; smaller pumpkins need about 100 blooms.)
- Step 3: Stick blooms in the holes. The moisture from the pumpkin flesh will keep your “mumkin” looking good for 3 to 4 days.
Create mumkins out of several sized pumpkins for great table decor.

1. Best Halloween Flower Arrangement
First off, the Hocus Pocus flower arrangement (pictured above) has been a favorite ever since it was created! The color palette used in this is such a stark contrast to the normal orange and black we usually associate with Halloween. The bright green and dark purples, mixed with the painted-black pumpkins definitely reminds one of a ghoulishly-grand witch. This floral design would make THE PERFECT hostess gift for any Halloween party.
2. Best Halloween Hostess Gifts
Flowers aren’t typically frightening sights for sore eyes, but they are a tried and true gift. That’s right. Even Halloween is touched by the boo-tiful grace of flowers. If you’re heading to a Halloween party this year, remember to take flowers along for the host or hostess. You can jazz-up Halloween flowers to match everything from a haunted house theme to an informal dinner party for adults. It’s all in the flowers.
3. Best Halloween Card Messages
Local florists spend Halloween like everyone else except they get to deliver their best Halloween flower arrangements and watch how happy this type of celebration makes people. They are always coming across new and clever card messages to accompany their arrangements, so it seemed only natural to ask for some of their favorite Halloween card messages.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is something florists do not take lightly. Many go above and beyond to do their part to raise awareness of this disease in their own creative ways.
Here are just a few of the ways florists all across the nation are helping out:
- Bayberries Flowers & Gifts in Caldwell Idaho is giving $5.00 to their local breast cancer screening center for every “pink” arrangement ordered through the 20th of October.
- Clark Flower & Gift Shop in Clark, SD is doing a ‘”Bra”vo For A Cure’ Decorated Bra Contest during the month of October for Breast Cancer Awareness. So far, they’ve got 32 entries, and have them displayed in the front window of their store. (photo below)
We have having a People’s Choice vote during October for the winning entry with a $1 donation per vote. Proceeds will be donated to the local Relay For Life. Also, we took photos of all our entries & put a photo album on our Facebook page. The entry that gets the most likes during October will win a prize.
We also have pink rose specials for the month, & are donating $1 for each pink rose sold to our local Relay For Life. We are also giving out [FSN's] Think Pink flyer to customers during October. It’s fun to watch people looking at our window display; laughing and having fun with it. We got so many cute entries. The decorated bras will be donated for an auction to be held later to benefit our local Relay For Life
