The holidays are coming up fast and it’s time to put up your last-minute decorations! We put together a quick guide on how you can incorporate these three evergreens into your holiday decor.
If you are looking for the smells and textures of Christmas, then look no further than the three popular holiday greens: Fir, Pine, and Cedar.
Fir
Firs are very fragrant and shiny evergreens with dark green needles. Two popular firs are the Douglas Fir, which has beautiful soft needles, and the Pacific Silver Fir, which have a silvery-white color under its needles.
Pine
Pines are known for their bright green color and long needles. The Princess Pine is popular due to its soft texture. The shore pine has long needles and small pine cones that add to the overall rustic look.
Cedar
The Port Orford Cedar is the most popular of cedars and it is recognized by its long stems and lacy tips. It is also one of the most long-lasting greens. It maintains its vitality and color for many weeks.

The VaseOff! Challenge
The VaseOff! Challenge is a competition put together to increase consumer awareness of the expertise of local florists and which showcases their ability to design specifically for an individual. Walter Fedyshyn was paired with a Chicago-based blogger named Melissa Williams who writes about DIY projects, design, home decor, travel and much more! He read her blog and perused her social media pages to learn as much as he could about her, and then created a design with those bits of knowledge in mind!
The resulting design beat out the other three competitors for first place! Good job, Walter!

And done right means contacting your local florist! Many florists offer full-service decoration for your home or business wherein they will both provide and arrange all your decorating for you! Did you know that? I mean, these people don’t just come in and toss a few decorations around, they make your place look like a Christmas palace!
As impressive as this service is, it’s also very time consuming. It often takes multiple employees to do a single home, and the decoration can take hours. That means that florists will only have so many time-slots open for this sort of thing, and if you don’t schedule yours RIGHT NOW, you may not get in at all! - 3. Match Your Style. Choose a tree and ornaments in styles and colors to match that of your already-existing home decor. For instance, a shabby-chic home might choose all-natural and vintage ornaments and tree styles.
- 4. Memory Lane. Collect ornaments for important life occasions, vacations, and for any other special memories. Each year at Christmas, your family can revisit these memories while putting up the tree.
