Administrative Professional’s Day is April 24th. Take this opportunity to tell your staff “Thanks So Much!” Once known as Secretary’s Day, Administrative Professionals Day has become one of the largest workplace observances.

This special day is celebrated worldwide with activities recognizing support staff with gifts. In the United States, the day is often celebrated by giving one’s assistant gifts such as flowers, candy, or time off. Have you said “Thank You” to your staff lately? This is a perfect opportunity!

Don’t Leave Your Staff Out On Their Special Holiday!

Next week is Administrative Professionals Week, with the designated Admin Professionals DAY being on April 27th! (Formerly known as Secretary’s Day) This is the time to thank those who make our jobs a whole lot easier! Over the years, Administrative Professionals Week has become one of the largest workplace observances, it’s even celebrated worldwide.

A Bit Of History Of This Holiday

In 1955, the observance date of National Secretaries Week was moved to the last full week of April. The name was changed to Professional Secretaries Week in 1981, and became Administrative Professionals Week in 2000 to encompass the expanding responsibilities and wide-ranging job titles of administrative support staff.

Why Should You Celebrate?

Any good business owner knows they would not be where they are without the help of their crew. Even temporary staff are essential to getting the job done and done right! How do you plan to recognize your staff on Administrative Professional’s Day/Week?

First off, you can NEVER go wrong with flowers. Everyone loves to receive beautiful blooms to brighten up an office desk. Have your flowers delivered on Monday to kick off a spectacular Administrative Professionals Week!

Gift baskets are also available from your local florist and are so exciting when delivered to an entire office. Everyone has a chance to sample some of their favorites. If your staff is more health-conscious, order a fresh fruits gift basket. If they have more of a sweet tooth, you might order a chocolate filled gift basket, or a candy gift basket! All are great ideas and so yummy for your crew!

For the rest of the week, go out of your way to do nice gestures for your staff. Clean the bathroom extra spick-and-span. Have a lunch cookout on a nice sunny day. Let everyone go an hour early on Friday. There are lots of great, and inexpensive ways you can show your crew just how much they mean to you.

Administrative Professionals Day Gift Ideas

There’s no better gift than flowers to recognize the hard work of administrative professionals — well maybe time off … But seriously, administrative professionals keep our businesses, churches, groups and other organizations moving.

April 24th (2013) is a day set aside for their appreciation — show them you care by sending something personalized just for them.

Many local florists offer some type of customizable gift basket options. Find out your administrative professional’s favorite candy or chocolates and send them a cute gift basket filled with his or her favorite sweets. If she prefer fruits and veggies, send her a fresh fruit basket. There are great skincare baskets filled with lotions, body sprays and bubble baths you can send. Some florists even offer great themed baskets: Cat Lovers Baskets, Golf Baskets, Cooking Lovers Baskets, just to name a few.

Don’t think sending flowers is too old-fashioned either! People LOVE getting flowers… (I’m not just saying that because I have to!) Sending flowers to the office is a great way to say thank you for all your hard work. Coffee cup arrangements are FANTASTIC for office gifts. Sure, getting flowers will brighten someones day, but seeing the coffee cup their flowers came in every morning can really give them the sense of appreciation that we can all use in the mornings.

Secretary’s Day: More Than A Simple Thank You

I may not have a secretary but I’ve been one, and the simple pleasure that comes from an employer’s appreciation is worth its weight in gold. Sometimes it is hard to find the right words to show an employee how valuable their efforts really are. Administrative professional, clerical assistant, secretary—whatever title graces the placard, the right hand they provide helps ensure a smooth functioning workplace.

Sometimes the day begins cheerily with a bright smile from your assistant as you walk in the door. Other times it is the secretary who is always a step ahead during crunch times that proves of invaluable importance. This week is Secretary’s Week across America. What better time than now to show just how much you appreciate the smell of a fresh pot of coffee every morning, not having to field problem phone calls, office products in ample supply, and a workplace that feels like home every time you arrive.
