4 Tips When Sending Him Flowers

Should you send him flowers for Valentine’s Day? Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. What are you getting for the special man in your life? Why not flowers?

Traditionally, flowers were considered a gift for women, but times are changing. With such a variety of options available, you just have to find the right fit for your man. There are a few things to keep in mind when selecting flowers for men:

1. When selecting colors think vibrant and high-energy, or green and natural, instead of pastels and pinks.

2. When choosing a style, opt for an arrangement that looks a bit more edgy, like modern art, for the contemporary man. Is he a nature lover? Select a more natural and earthy arrangement. Find a style that suits his personality.

3. Does he have a hobby or special interest? Ask your florist about ways to incorporate that into the arrangement.

4. Still not sure your guy would enjoy flowers? Consider a plant. Something that can add a little nature to his work space. Let him know that having plants in the office is good for the air quality, and that you want to improve the quality of his life, because he improves the quality of yours.

If you carefully select an arrangement with him in mind, he will feel the same way you do when he sends you flowers – special and loved.

An Extra Special Valentine’s Day Delivery

Story of Eternal RomanceIf this tender story of love and romance doesn’t bring tears to your eyes, I don’t know what will.

“My sweet husband, John, and I were married for 46 years. Each Valentine’s Day, he’d send me the most beautiful flowers containing  a note with five simple words, ‘My love for you grows.’ Four children, 46 bouquets and a lifetime of love were his legacy to me when he passed away two years ago.

“On my first Valentine’s Day alone, 10 months after I lost him, I was shocked to receive a gorgeous bouquet addressed to me… from John. Angry and heartbroken, I called the florist to say there had been a mistake. The florist replied, ‘No ma’am, it’s not a mistake. Before he passed away, your husband prepaid for many years and asked us to guarantee that you’d continue getting bouquets every Valentine’s Day.’ With my heart in my throat, I hung up the phone and read the attached card. It said, ‘My love for you is eternal.’

What an amazing story of eternal love. This Valentine’s Day, why not start your flower traditions? Your local florist would be happy to take care of you, this year and for the many more to come.

5 Houseplants With Heart

The day of love, Valentine’s, is almost upon us. Most of the time, it’s pretty easy to buy Valentine’s Day gifts. Most people are satisfied with the traditional gifts of flowers, dinner, jewelry and the like. However.. there are a few among us who are not so swayed by sweetness. If your girl is just not the romance type, or your hubby thinks “flowers are for girls” then this suggestion is for you!

There’s nothing like flowers and plants on Valentines Day. They bring a life and energy with them you won’t get from any other gift. If your Boo says boo to a bouquet, why not give the gift of green via a lush houseplant that is full of heart — heart-shaped leaves that is!

Here are a few heart-shaped suggestions to get you started:

1. Heart-leaf Philodendron

Heartleaf PhilodendronThe Heartleaf Philodendron is known as the sweetheart plant because of the unique heart shape of its leaves. These heart-leaf plant is easy to care for and it’s evergreen vines, if allowed, will grow up ledges or walls, enhancing any room.

However, if your Sweetie has cats, other pets or small children who would be prone to eating the leaves, this may not be a good choice. This plant is toxic if ingested.

The Romance Of Flowers: How To Choose The Best Flowers For Your Sweetie

Flower Romance Consists Of More Than Roses!

flower-romance-for-valentines-dayYes, roses are traditionally considered the most romantic flower.

However, this isn’t always the case. Though it seems hard to believe, many men and women do not care for roses or favor other flowers more highly.

When you’re in a pickle about which romantic flowers to get your sweetheart, don’t be discouraged. Try these ideas instead:

Choose A Flower With A Significant Meaning

The instant joy felt when receiving flowers is a memory not quickly forgotten. Often, parents send their children the same type of flower each year to celebrate a birthday, special occasion or Valentine’s Day before boyfriends and girlfriends enter the picture.

romantic-tulipsCarnations, orchids, tulips, daisies and other popular cut flowers are given as tokens of love and affection on these occasions. Growing up with those memories, the flowers sent are revered through adolescence and into adulthood.

When considering Valentine’s Day gifts, anniversary flowers, or birthday flowers this year, do your best to learn if a particular bloom has a special significance to your sweetheart.

Instead of the traditional “because it’s expected of me” gift, your sweetie will enjoy the “it’s truly because I care” gesture. The little things go a long way, and this is the “extra mile” sort of gift that will dazzle.

Select Fresh Flowers With Special Meanings

The sweetest thing someone can do for their lover is to personally select the flowers that go into a romantic bouquet. Taking the time to learn about flower meanings, flower color meanings and personal significance to the recipient is the most amazing part of any gift. When ordering a romantic flower bouquet from your florist, consider the following flowers. Each has a special flower meaning. (Hint:  Include the flower meaning on the card and watch her eyes light up!)

  • Holly = domestic happiness
  • Larkspur = beautiful spirit
  • Lilac = first love
  • Orchid = delicate beauty
  • Red Tulip = declaration of love
  • Yellow Tulip = hopelessly in love

Talk with your florist about using flowers with significant meanings. The best gift of all is the gift that shows how much you care.

Roses: Your “Go To Gift”

Need a fresh gift idea? Many people traditionally think of roses as a romantic gift. However, roses are so much more than that. Few truly appreciate the uniqueness of roses and how the right spin on the gift of roses will make it the best gift yet.

Don’t feel left in the dark. From the flower meaning of roses to crafty card messages, here’s how to turn your bouquet of roses into the ultimate gift of love, friendship or thanks.

It’s Good To Look Back – A Partial History of the Rose

Adding a creative spin to your gift is easy when you know the history of the rose. The enclosure card is a great place to let your sweetheart or friend know why you chose the gift of roses. Do you see her as a goddess? An elegant, aristocratic type? Find your inspiration below.

Rose With Dew DropsRoses have played a large part of many societies throughout the world. In both Greek and Roman mythology, roses were associated with their goddesses of love (Aphrodite and Venus respectively). The rose has also been attributed to the Egyptian goddess Isis and the Christian religion’s Virgin Mary.

During the time of the Roman Empire, Romans placed a rose on the doorstep where secret matters were being discussed. The term “sub rosa,” meaning “under the rose,” came from this practice. The phrase means “to keep a secret” or “keep it secret.”

In English society, the rose is the national flower of England and the provincial flower of two provinces. It is also the national flower of the United States and the state flower of four U.S. states.

Valentines Day in the U.S. is not the only time when roses are given as a gift of love. Dark red roses are also given as romantic or affectionate gifts on St. George’s Day in Catalonia, an autonomous community in Spain.

Why do you see so many roses with French names? Because much of the fascination with roses began when Empress Josephine of France encouraged the breeding of roses at her gardens in Malmaison. Subsequently, many famous French artists have grown famous for their depictions of roses. Examples include Pierre-Joseph Redoute, Henri Fantin-Latour, Claude [Read more…]

What A Guy Wants – Flowers Of Course!

Flowers For HimYou know there is song about what a girl wants, how about what a guy wants? Most men and women all want one thing – appreciation. Yes, it is that simple. Everyone wants to be appreciated.  But, how do we show appreciation to the men in our lives? With flowers of course! Think about how you love to receive flowers, the way they make you feel appreciated and loved.  Not to mention, research has demonstrated the mood boosting power of flowers for both men and women.  So, a bouquet of flowers will give him the same wonderful feeling you get from a special flower delivery.

How To Find The Right Gifts For Men

Finding the right gift for your guy doesn’t have to be difficult. It just takes a bit of thought as to what he might enjoy and an element of surprise. An unexpected gift such as flowers will surprise him and keep him thinking of you all day. As you know, flowers come in a plethora of varieties, colors, textures and fragrances. So, when deciding what to send, think about his favorite color, scent, hobby and other personality defining things. Then call your local florist and describe your guy and the flower ideas that you think he will like.  Not sure about what type of flowers to send? Don’t worry, your florist has a million ideas and they will be happy to create something perfect for your guy. In fact, florists have containers, colors and textures that have a masculine appeal.

Special Occasion Gifts For Men With A Twist

Looking for a gift for a special occasion such as Valentines Day or your anniversary? Send him a dozen roses in his favorite color.  If roses aren’t available in his favorite color, have the florist wrap them in paper or ribbons in that color.  For a special twist add an element of anticipation when sending flowers.  Before delivery remove three or four roses from the dozen with a note on the enclosure card that says “To my love, this is really a dozen, the ones missing are with a special surprise that will be waiting for you at home tonight.” The surprise at home is up to you; let your imagination go wild. I guarantee your man will feel very loved and appreciated as he anxiously awaits his evening surprise.

Flowers For Dad

Gifts For Dad That Say “I Love You”

When distance keeps you from celebrating with dad in person, a special gift is needed to show him how much you love and miss him.  Sending dad flowers is great way to say “I love you” and “I’m thinking of you.”  Flowers will brighten his day adding to the special memories he has of you. Every time your dad walks by or looks at the flowers, he will be reminded that you are always thinking of him. Nothing is better than that feeling. It’s as near to a hug as you can give.

Gifts That Boost Morale

Is the man in your life having a work problem? One that a boost in problem solving energy might fix? A 2003 Texas A&M study found that flowers in the work place boosted a man’s creative problem solving skill (reading productivity) by 15%.  This is only one of the morale boosting benefits of flowers.

According to the Society of American Florist 60% of men surveyed said they enjoyed receiving flowers. Think about it 60% of men want you to send flowers to them. That means if you know 10 men, 6 of them want flowers. Maybe your boss,  your husband or boyfriend is one of the six.  It could even be your co-worker who covered for you during that long lunch break. I suspect the other 4 guys simply don’t know how good it feels to receive flowers or are afraid to admit they want flowers. So boost some morale and send flowers today to a guy you know.

Really? Send Him Flowers

Still apprehensive about sending a man flowers. There is no need to be. Sure it’s out of the ordinary and not at all expected. Those are the very reasons why you should send flowers. Giving flowers to men is great way to say “I love you,” “I’m sorry,” “Thanks,” as well as any other reason you can think including “just because”. Remember flowers will let him know that you are thinking of him.

Father Day FlowersFor the first timers, here are a few guidelines to follow. Men tend to like less elaborate flower arrangements. Stay more in line with linear arrangements and  nothing too “frilly” or delicate. Roses are an excellent choice, as well as carnations and daisies. Men enjoy tropical flowers like Bird of Paradise or flower arrangements with an outdoorsy feel.

This type of arrangement is a man pleaser with its a rectangular glass vases strong foliage (pittosporum and hosta leaves), peach lilies, bi-colored rust peach roses, gerberas and fantastic texture with blades of lily grass and dried lotus pods. This rich and intense arrangement speaks to men.

Still a bit shy about sending men flowers? Don’t be. However, you can always test the waters by sending a blooming plant. The most important thing to remember is that men, just like women, want that feeling of appreciation, love and that feel good feeling that somebody was thinking of them.

With the many types of flowers that a florist can use to make a fun, flirty or even a friendly arrangement for a man, you have a multitude of gift giving options and opportunities. There are so many reasons to send a man flowers: for his birthday, for fathers day or “just because.”  My personal favorite is the “just because.”  Why? Because it lets my husband know I’m thinking of him and it gets me something in return – an extra special hug and kiss from a very appreciative husband.  Remember flowers are a way to send a hug. So, contact your local florist and send flowers to your guy today.
