Ask the Expert: help identify a dried flower

My mother whom is now passed away got these flowers in a dried arrangement years ago. I was wondering what kind of flower is this? I've been searching for sometime now, any help is greatly appreciated. A photo is attached for your consideration.
Thank you,
Jennifer Nutter

    Jennifer,

This one was hard. I personally haven't seen this dried botanical before. I did some research and I think this is a dried palm flower. It looks similar to the dried palm flowers on this page http://www.dry-flowers.net/palm-flowers.html.

Hopefully some one out there will be able to verify my identification.

this dried "flower" is actually the open dried seed pod of what is commonly known in Hawaii as "woodrose";. it grows on a vigorous vine here in Hawaii. the actual flower is yellow and here it blooms in the late summer to early fall and pods appear late october to january. hardly cultivated because of its vigirous growth , it grows wild , mostly alongside roadways and unattended lots.
