    Gene,

    The plant in questiion is a Acalypus hispida which I know as chenille plant. Some people call it Red-hot cat's tail. In the United States we use it as a houseplant or a seasonal potted plant. It loves lots of light but not direct sun. Needs high humidity and moderate moisture level.
