3 Plants Likely to Survive the Office

3 Plants Likely to Survive the Office

I am now the proud owner of a Phalaenopsis Orchid.  My husband bought this gorgeous plant for my desk.  The first weekend I left it, I knew I was going to come back to a dead plant.  So far, it has survived.  I’ve decided to name it Ollie the Office Orchid, and it has inspired me to write about other plants to brighten your office space.

Heartleaf Philodendron

The Heartleaf Philodendron is easy to care for and is a classic houseplant.  The luscious leaves are heart shaped, and it can be grown in a pot or hanging basket.  It likes to climb, so it will need a stake or trellis if in a pot.  This is a low maintenance plant that can survive in low light with a moderate amount of water.

African Violet

Want a flowering plant available in a variety of colors?  The African Violet is for you!  It is also a smaller size plant, so it can fit about anywhere.  These require a little more work, but are still relatively low maintenance.  They will bloom indoors with low to moderate light levels, and should be watered from the bottom rather than the top.

Mother-In-Law’s TongueMotherinlaws Tongue

If you want a plant, but don’t have a green thumb, try a Mother-In-Law’s Tongue, also known as Snake Plant.   These tough plants are extremely tolerant of neglect.  They enjoy brighter lights, but can survive in moderate to low light.  They also require little water.  They do grow rapidly and can crack a pot if it’s too small, so they will need to be re-potted more frequently.

Plants and flowers in the office have been shown to increase morale and productivity.  Plus it’s nice to have a touch of the outdoors to look at when you spend the majority of your day at a desk.
