Holiday Highlight: Christmas

The Christmas season has already begun, and we’re so excited for all the holiday festivities! Have you put flowers at the top of your nice list for the holiday season? They’re a great addition to all the Christmas celebrations you’ll be having, so we’ve got a few ideas for how to incorporate them!

History

Christmas is, of course, celebrated on December 25th every year and has been for 2,000 years. Exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, and time spent with family and friends have all become staples of the holiday. Today’s Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus, but a similar winter holiday has been celebrated in Europe even before his birth to mark the winter solstice. Christmas has been a federal holiday in the U.S. since 1870.

Classic Red

From roses to gerberas to lilies, red flowers are sure to be everywhere during the Christmas season. Red is a classic Christmas color for a reason. Pair it with Christmas greens and gold accents to bring the tradition to life and create a stunning arrangement that you or whoever you send it to will treasure for the rest holiday season.

Centerpieces

A Christmas centerpiece is a beautiful way to liven up your table for the holidays! No matter what color scheme you go with for your decor, your florist can create something stunning for you. Consider asking them to add Christmas ornaments, pine cones, candles, or other holiday-themed accessories to create a centerpiece that’s perfect for you. It’s sure to be a showstopper!

Poinsettias

You can’t go wrong with a Christmas classic! Poinsettias are a holiday tradition thanks to their winter growing season. They make the perfect gift for a party host or hostess, and make a gorgeous addition to your own Christmas decor! Poinsettias became associated with Christmas thanks to a Mexican legend. In it, a poor young girl brought weeds and laid them at the altar of her church since she had no other gift to give. Those weeds bloomed into beautiful red poinsettias. They’re extremely popular at Christmastime, with over 35 million sold every year in the United States alone.

We can’t wait for Santa to arrive this year! Flowers are the perfect way to spread Christmas cheer to those you love, so take some time to pick the right ones. Find a local florist today!
