What Is This Purple Rimmed White Flower?

Ask the Plant Expert: which flower is this?

Hi, A florist brought in these beautiful flowers into our office today. My colleague and I are trying to figure out what kind of flower it is. Could you help us identify it? Thanks! Poorvi

Purple Rim Lisianthus

Poorvi,
The flower is called Lisianthus grandiflorum (sometimes classified as Eustoma grandiflorum). The satin blooms present themselves in an open branch silhouette which florist tend to use in mass form in flower arrangements. This flower comes in a variety of colors: oranges, yellows/greens, blues/purples, green/purples In a vase arrangement, the flowers should last between 10 and 15 days.

Although not a fragrant flower, florists use Lisianthus in a variety of ways including corsages. Fortunately this flower is available to florists all year. To learn more about this flower go to Flower Shop Network’s Flower Dictionary and look up Lisianthus.
