They are on long stems, approximately 12 to 18 inches tall. It usually flowers beginning in June(?) and July. This year it did very well and flowered into August. Without a picture, my first thought would be either Coral Bells or Heucherella tiarelliodes. Both of these are excellent perennials. Although they can have red, pink or white blooms, I use them for their outstanding foliage.
If you could send a picture of the plant, I could positively identify it.
