Mother’s Day Floral Trends ’15

Your mother is a special lady and her gift on Mother’s Day should be just as special. Many flower-gifters opt for a rose bouquet, which is a beautiful and classic choice, but there are many other options that will also bring a radiant smile to a loved one’s face. Here are this year’s options for a Mother’s Day floral gift!

Lilies

Give your mom the symbol of life this Mother’s Day. Lilies come in a plethora of colors, so choose her favorite and combine the flowers with other spring and summer blooms.

Tulips

Whether potted or in a bouquet, tulips are a Mom favorite because they are colorful and long-lasting. They, like lilies, are available in just about every color!

Potted Rosebush

Does Mom have a green thumb? Then instead of a cut flower bouquet, consider this everlasting tribute to her. These small blooming plants can be enjoyed inside for a long time before being replanted in her garden.

Succulents

Succulents and air plants have grown in popularity and make an excellent gift this season. If your Mom isn’t much of a gardener, no worries! Succulents don’t require much water and stay indoors!

Extras

You can add a gift along with your arrangement as well! Talk to your florist about incorporating a keepsake to your floral gift. Jewellery, chocolate and even photos are viable add-ons to make a unique gift.

Mother’s Day is for honoring the special woman who raised you and what better way to say “I love you” than with flowers! Head to your local florist to make this Mother’s Day truly special!

May Newsletter: Mothers Day Magnificence

fsn_banner_229

It’s Mothers Day once again. The day we all set aside to say, “Thank You” to the woman who stood by our side and supported us from day one. She picked us up when we needed help, let us do it ourselves when necessary and always looked out for our well-being. She cheered us on during the game, applauded our performance on the stage and swelled with pride at every achievement. She was tough when she had to be, comforting when we needed her to be and loving through it all.

This woman should receive all your love this Mothers Day. And she’d probably also enjoy some lovely flowers. And doesn’t she deserve it? After all, she’s Mom.

DIY Pressed Flower Phone Case

We are always on the lookout for new and exciting ways to use flowers, and any time we find an idea that is “outside the box”, we like to highlight it. That’s the case today as we ran across this excellent DIY post on Etsy from author Clare McGibbon detailing how to decorate a phone case with dried and pressed flowers! The process is simple, though not without need for a steady hand. Still, Mrs. McGibbon includes a method for clean-up if you get a little wild with the resin.

Best Reasons to Send Flowers in May

#1. Mother’s Day – May 11th – This really is the mother of all flower-sending holidays and that’s because nothing shows love and unconditional affection like fresh-cut flowers. Have your mom’s flowers delivered during the week to her office so she can show them off to her friends. Or have flowers arrive on the weekend to help her enjoy her special day.

#2. Armed Forces Day – May 17th and Memorial Day – May 26th – That’s 2 chances you have this month to show your love for the red, white and blue! Armed Forces Day salutes soldiers currently serving in the military while Memorial Day is set aside to honor those fallen heroes who gave their life in service. Send a beautiful patriotic themed bouquet to a special friend or family member who serves or served their country through military service.

#3. May Birthdays – Have family or friends with a May birthday coming up soon? Show them just how thoughtful you are with a lovely arrangement.

Mother’s Day and Flowers: A Time-Honored Tradition

Mother’s Day has long been synonymous with flowers. In fact, the tradition of giving carnations, and then eventually wearing them as corsages, began all the way back at the inception of the American version of the holiday. Why? Well, carnations were the favorite flower of founder Anna Jarvis’ mother. Anna Jarvis arrived at the first Mother’s Day celebration in 1908 with 500 of these gorgeous flowers!

But the tradition has both grown and relaxed a bit since those early days, and now there is less stress placed on the type of flower your mother receives. It’s no longer necessary to concern yourself with the type of flower Mrs. Jarvis’ mother loved but rather with the type of flower your mother loves.

The Mother’s Day Corsage

The traditional flower for the corsage may be an orchid, but the type of flower is much less important these days than the color of said flower. If your mother wears a white flower, it indicates her mother is deceased. If she wears a red or pink flower, it indicates her mother is still alive. You definitely want to get those colors right. Confusing them could end up with your mother answering uncomfortable questions from concerned friends!

And if you are a woman, the same applies to you. Wearing a corsage does not indicate that you are a mother, but rather that you are wearing something to honor your own mother. It’s traditional for the man in your life to provide you with that corsage, though certainly not a requirement if you need to do it yourself. So if you are a woman who has no children of your own, don’t get caught up on whether or not it’s okay to wear a corsage this Mother’s Day. It is.

Other Mother’s Day Flowers

So, you’ve taken care of the corsage issue, but you really want to get your mom a nice arrangement of flowers to show her how much you care. What should you do? The easy answer is: anything you want!

Okay, okay, that’s a little too open ended. You want a little more direction. The best piece of advice would be to find your mother’s favorite flower and go with it. After all, you can’t go wrong with something she already loves. Barring that, you are safe with most any spring flower. Lilies, tulips, lilacs, irises, orchids, carnations or many others will help make your mom’s special day a little brighter and her smile a little wider.

And where is always the best place to go for your Mother’s Day questions and your Mother’s Day purchases? Your local florist, of course. She will be sure to lead you down the right path in your buying decision, and the finished product will be something you can give to your mother proudly. So head over to our florist finder and call your local florist today!

Mom Moments: Bringing Memories To Life

In every family there are those stories, you know exactly the ones I’m talking about. I like to call these Mom Moments. Someone new comes to a family gathering and before you know it, your sibling is loudly regaling them about that none-to-flattering time you… And a cut-off never seems to work. The story gets told. Faces turn red, and laughs ring out. You might be safe after that point as long as no one scrambles for the photo album. There are other stories we often share. Everyone has memorable funny or sweet stories to tell about their mothers.

With Mother’s Day coming up, take time to recall a mom moment. Maybe it was the time your mother took you to pick flowers when you were young, or taught you to whistle. How she always sings along with the radio even if she doesn’t know all the words. Sometimes, our mothers have the seemingly supernatural way of knowing when we are sick or need a care package at college. Being able to make a grilled cheese sandwich just the way you like it is a job skill worthy of a resume.

Our mothers are amazing! Celebrate by showing your mom how special she is.

Flowers for First Moms on their First Mother's Day

All of the joys of motherhood start with that first baby bundled in your arms. New mothers will find they are the focus of an entire day of celebration on May 12th, 2013. On Mother’s Day, we honor our mothers because they are the most important people in our lives. For all the love & support they give, special thanks are definitely in order. For new moms, those traditions are just starting.

If someone in your life recently had a baby, or is expecting, take advantage of this unique opportunity to wish them Happy 1st Mother’s Day!

Gift Ideas For First-Time Moms

  • A beautiful flower arrangement on her first Mother’s Day is sure to be remembered.  Check out this fun FSN Style Guide to help select flowers that are a prefect compliment to her indiviual style. Contact a nearby flower shop to place your order early.
  • Few things are appreciated more than a meal you didn’t have to cook yourself. Surprise a busy mom by jumping in the kitchen to whip up something tasty. Cooking not your thing? Order from her favorite restaurant. She will love having the night off and probably swoon if she doesn’t have to do the dishes either!
  • A sweet surprise for expecting moms – send fresh flowers from your local florist and have them sign the card from the new baby. You’ll be jump-starting a long tradition of love and celebration. Cards that read “I Love You Already” or “My Heartbeat Will Always Be With You” signed with the new baby’s name will be sure to melt her heart.
  • What sleep deprived mom wouldn’t love a break? Offer to help around the house with laundry and picking up toys. For an understated gesture, casually leave a card with her favorite candy in a place she’ll find it later, maybe when the house is quiet.

All mothers deserve warm Mother’s Day wishes.
This year, don’t forgot how extra special it is to be a first-time mom!

Forget Your Moms on Mother’s Day?

Flowers for Sweet Mom First of all, I don’t see how anyone could forget about Mother’s Day. There were advertisements for the holiday literally everywhere. However, it’s easy to forget how many special mothers there are in our lives, besides our own:

  • Mother-in-law
  • Friends
  • Aunts
  • Sisters
  • Other moms in your life

Some of these ladies might have children who live out of town or have already passed from this earth. Show them they are still loved by sending a special gift of flowers. You don’t have to say Happy Mother’s Day, but send words of encouragement and love.

Everyone deserves to be loved and appreciated, don’t let a mom in your life be left out.
