  • Her lips will warm your lips; when you send her a bouquet of tulips and a box of chocolates.
  • Stargazer lilies, bubble bath and a tub for tow.
  • Bring home some Birds of Paradise and dance the night away to some Jimmy Buffett.
  • Wood burning fireplace, hot cocoa, marshmallows and a cinnamon candle.
  • Have the dog warm your spot on the bed.
  • Replace the winter screen saver with a hot tropics screen shot; then, light a honeysuckle candle. Doesn’t really beat the winter cold, but pretending its summer is fun.
  • Rent a comedy and laugh until you’re hot.
  • Dinner by candlelight.
  • Warm blanket, a good book and a vase of sunflowers.

Winter in the Northern Hemisphere occurs in December, January and February. Winter occurs in the Southern Hemisphere in June, July and August.

Flowers associated with winter are amaryllis, hyacinth, tulips, narcissus (daffodils) and hellebores. There are particular flowers (sometimes called birth flowers) associated with each winter month. December depending on the sources has four birth flowers. Holly, poinsettias, narcissus and orchids are considered the birth flowers for December. Carnations or snowdrops are the birth flower for the winter month of January. The last month of winter, February has three birth month flowers: Iris, violets and primrose. Despite the cold, winter is associated with several different kinds of flowers.

In 1816 winter lasted all year and became known as the Year Without Summer. This yearlong winter was a result of volcanic activity.
