There is something very satisfying and healthy about picking vegetables from your garden in the morning and having it on your plate that night.
  
This is the perfect time to plant. It's the weekend and the cooler temperatures make planting less stressful on the young plants. 
 
Your vegetable garden is not complete without a stop at Pinehurst. We have personally grown a great selection of vegetables in our greenhouses just for you. You can also find your favorite herbs.  
 
The Garden Center has many of the fertilizers, tools, and solutions for your pest and weed problems. We also have a wide variety of seeds.

Children of all ages can enjoy gardening.
Kids Gardening
The knowledge of gardening is a great gift to give your kids and grandkids. The secret is to keep it fun, simple, and easy. Children gain the knowledge of where their food comes from when growing vegetables. Growing flowers can also be very rewarding to them and teach them about nature.
 
If they are growing vegetables, make sure their garden has at least six hours of full sun for best results. You may want to give them their own little corner of your garden. If you don't have an actual garden spot, you can give them their own pot for container gardening and you can easily tuck in a few seeds or plants among your flower and shrub beds.

Prevent weeds before they happen.
 
I'm all for making gardening easier and more enjoyable. The one thing I don't enjoy is seeing weeds growing in my flower beds and garden or the time it takes to eliminate them. By doing a few steps now, you can avoid the hard work of trying to keep those weeds under control later.
Pre-emergent herbicides stop weed seeds from germinating and grasses from sprouting. They eliminate a lot of the weed problems before they begin and they last all season long. The important part is to get them on before the weeds start to grow. They will not do anything to existing weeds. I have listed the great products you can find at Pinehurst. Each is different. Our staff can help you choose the best one for your needs.

Weed & Grass Killer
 
This product is Treflan, the same active ingredient as in Preen, but more economical. It is very effective in keeping weed seeds from germinating and grass from sprouting in flower beds, vegetable gardens and around trees and shrubs. An easy to use granule that is best when worked into the soil. It has a half life of 1-2 months.

For control or suppression of listed annual grass and broadleaf weeds in ornamental landscape areas and established lawns. It has a half life of 6 months.

Broadleaf Weed Control with Gallery
 
A pre-emergent herbicide for control of broadleaf weeds like dandelion, clover, chickweed, spurge, yellow woodsorrel (Oxalis), and henbit and suppression of annual grasses in landscape ornamentals and home lawns. It has a half life of 9 months.
 
 
Monterey
Weed Impede
This is a liquid that you can attach to your hose and spray. This forms a barrier on the soil that does not have to be worked in and should not be disturbed. It is great for shrub beds and driveways. You can spray Weed Impede over the top of established plants.
 
 
Casoron
 
This is a granule and can be used around woody stemmed plants like roses, trees, and shrubs that have been planted for 4 months. Casoron can be used around raspberries to keep weeds and grasses from growing in them. It can't be used where you plan to plant flowers and vegetables.
 
Pre-emergents should not be used on a slope, ditch bank, or where flood irrigation is used or water will puddle. When using pre-emergents and any other chemical, always read and follow the package recommendations.

LADYBUGS
 
Ladybugs prefer to eat aphids and will devour up to 50 a day, but they will also attack scale, mealy bugs, boil worms, leafhopper, and corn ear worm. They dine only on insects and do not harm vegetation in any way.
 
GREEN LACEWINGS
Green Lacewings are predators of many species of pest insects and mites. These attractive pale green insects are an effective natural enemy of aphids, mites, whiteflies, mealybugs, leafhoppers, and thrips.
 
 
Praying Mantids
Praying Mantids eat a wide variety of garden pests. In their younger stages they eat aphids, thrips, flies and maggots, small caterpillars, leafhoppers, white grubs and other soft-bodied insects. Mature Mantids feed on larger caterpillars, earwigs, chinch bugs, sow bugs, beetles, grasshoppers and other large insects.

filled with quality plants that are locally grown at Pinehurst.  Beautiful hanging baskets and planters are our specialty.  Our customers tell us the plants from Pinehurst surpass any others. Container Gardening is made easy, whether you are growing beautiful flowers, vegetables, or a combination.

 

 Our staff will help you choose plants for your planters from our huge selection of specialty annuals and vegetables that are bred for top performance in your outdoor living area.  You can bring your own ideas, copy one of our many planters, or have a planter specialist help you with your choices.  Custom planting is available for those who want to leave the work to us.

 

 

 

The Vegetable Garden is not complete without a stop at Pinehurst.  We have personally grown a great selection of vegetables in our greenhouses just for you.  The Garden Center has all the seeds, fertilizers, and pest controls.  If you have never grown a garden, don't worry, the staff at Pinehurst is here to answer all your questions and give you tips to make it easy and more rewarding.

 

 

The Nursery is filled with a great selection of beautifully displayed hardy shade trees, evergreen trees, fruit trees, flowering shrubs, evergreen shrubs, shrub roses, and perennials that grow well in our area.  Hardy hydrangeas are a specialty at Pinehurst.  You'll find a great selection of roses.

Are you tired of planting the wrong plant in the wrong area? 

 

In Home Consultation    You can have a landscape designer come right to your home to assess your individual situation, answer all your gardening questions and give you landscape advice.  The cost is $85 in the Pocatello/Chubbuck area for a one hour consultation.  

 

30 Minute Consultation     Schedule your 30 minute in store landscape consultation at Pinehurst.  Bring pictures of your home and yard with dimensions and a landscape designer will set down with you and give advice to bring out the best in your home and help you make a plan of action.  The cost is $45 for a 30 minute consultation.
