September 7th, 2007 | By: Jamie Jamison Adams

Ask the Expert: What is this tree? Can you identify this tree? It is growing wild alongside my house, with no clear water source. I live in West San Bernardino county. thanks! Renee

    Renee,

I am consulting with others to determine what this tree is. Suggestion of Liquidambar formosana and Poplar trees come to mind but I am not sure at this point.

    Jamie,
Thanks, I appreciate it! I've looked through lots of tree guides and
can't find anything that quite matches. It looks the most like a quaking
aspen but the bark is olive/green brown and the leaves aren't teethed.
They sprout up frequently and I usually pull them up, but I let this one
grow because it's shading a window.
